Island del II – vad sker?

Sista natten i Reykjavik frågade jag Magnea Einarsdottir vad som sker med det muntliga berättandet på Island. Något mer du vill veta? Eller något du kan lägga till? Kommentera, fråga och berätta gärna mer!

  1. Calling Icelandic storytellers … Please, tell us more! What are the challenges, dreams and possibilities? The cultural history of oral storytelling? Are stories used in schools? Is there a strong, high-status literature tradition which is a problem for oral storytelling. Like the Grimm tradition in Germany which some storytellers consider more of curse than a blessing. Something else I should have asked?

Greetings from Iceland – Very nice to watch the video of Magnea. We have beeing taking baby steps in starting a storytelling movement. Starting our third year with a storycafe once a month – next occurance Okt. 4th.
Things will start devloping faster now – an international festival in the east next year. Berglind Agnarsdottir has worked on big projects there. In the west Ingi Hans and Sigurborg are big enthusiasts on storytelling. And I am sure at least three groups will start as a fruit of the nordisk seminar last summer.
One in the group lives in Akranes. Þora, she works as a storyteller in her school – first school in Iceland to employ a storyteller !!
This is what I know is happening – Everybody is a storyteller at the kitchen table -partys- and work, but still not very many professionals, I have been working as such for ten years. My dream is that storytelling becomes a part of the cultural scene. For the next year – our aim is to become more visualized – any advice on how to do that ?

  4. Thanks for adding to the picture of what’s happening! Perhaps a website is a way to become more visible? The wordpress system which this blog is built upon is free, powerful and designed for cooperation. Looking forward to hear about the development!

  5. Seems my advice was somewhat outdated – look here: http://felagsagnathula.is/ And there is a facebook group too. Google Translate – http://translate.google.com/ – helped me understand most of it🙂 However, if you want to share the work of maintaining a more interactive website, the wordpress system might be worth checking out.
